Leadership Lessons from 15 Years on the Front Lines

I help leaders build healthy cultures, make hard decisions under pressure, and keep their souls alive while they do it. I'm Laura Parker, CEO and co-founder of The Exodus Road, speaker, and writer. For 15 years, building a global organization on the front lines of human trafficking has been my leadership lab. I don't speak from theory. I speak from what 15 years of building something hard — and keeping my family and my soul intact while doing it — actually taught me.

    My Story

A life built at the intersection of justice, leadership, and family.

Laura Parker, CEO and co-founder of The Exodus Road and keynote speaker

Laura Parker is the CEO and co-founder of The Exodus Road, one of the world's leading anti-human trafficking organizations. With successful work in more than 20 countries, The Exodus Road has worked alongside local law enforcement to help free over 6,300 survivors, assisted in the arrest of over 2,000 traffickers, provided aftercare to over 2,700 survivors, and delivered prevention education to over 65,000 officers, citizens, and vulnerable populations, including at-risk youth across the United States.

Since becoming CEO in 2021, Laura has led the organization to 86% financial growth in four years, secured congressional support to fund the cutting-edge digital safety training program Influenced, and was named Person of the Year by Colorado Media Group alongside her husband and co-founder, Matt. She has been featured on CNN.

But the credentials and media placements only tell part of the story. Laura co-built this organization while raising three kids overseas, walking alongside investigators carrying the weight of years of dangerous undercover anti-trafficking work. 15 years on the front lines of one of the world's most challenging crises pressure-tested her concept of what leadership actually requires. She brings that insight and heart to every stage she steps onto.

In 2012, Laura Parker was living in Southeast Asia when she and her husband made a decision that would change everything. They launched an organization to fight human trafficking, sending investigators (including Matt Parker himself) undercover into some of the world's most dangerous places. What followed was fifteen years of risk, crisis, trauma, and against-all-odds growth that built a global organization now operating in over 20 countries. In this keynote, Laura tells the true story of what it actually takes to build something that matters, against every odd.

    Key Takeaways

    • Why real impact requires real risk, and how to take the right ones
    • Why grit, perseverance over time, is the most important quality in any endeavor
    • What trauma and pain teach us about psychological safety and human-centered leadership
Ideal for: Corporate leadership events, motivational events, entrepreneurship and business conferences, nonprofit leadership events

When Laura Parker became CEO in 2021, The Exodus Road was facing a financial and cultural crisis. In four years, she led it to 86% financial growth and expanded its impact across 20+ countries. The single most important thing Laura did to turn it around? She created psychological safety and invested in a healthy culture like the mission depended on it, because it did. In this keynote, Laura makes the case that culture isn't a nice-to-have. It's a vital advantage. And it starts with the leader.

    Key Takeaways

    • Why listening is the most underrated, and most powerful, leadership skill you have
    • How self-awareness and emotional intelligence directly impact your team's performance
    • How values drive workplace culture, and what happens when they don't
Ideal for: Corporate leadership events, HR and culture initiatives, women's leadership conferences, company-wide motivational events

When Laura Parker stepped into the CEO role of a global anti-trafficking organization in crisis, she did what most driven leaders do: she gave everything she had to the mission. She wasn't knowingly choosing work over family. But somewhere along the way, that's exactly what was happening. For work to win, her family was losing. And she was disappearing somewhere in the middle. Most driven leaders are climbing hard toward success without stopping to ask whether their ladder is leaning against the right wall. In this keynote, Laura shares what it took to pause, reassess, and rebuild a model of leadership where work, family, and self all win.

    Key Takeaways

    • Why the winner-takes-all leadership model is costing you more than you realize
    • How self-awareness and emotional regulation are the foundation of sustainable success
    • What it actually looks like to lead well at work and live well at home, at the same time
Ideal for: Company-wide motivational events, women's leadership conferences, corporate culture initiatives, working parent programs

    Where My Leadership Lives

    The Exodus Road

Much of what I know about leadership, I learned building The Exodus Road from the ground up.

In 2012, my husband and I launched The Exodus Road from Southeast Asia. We shared a conviction that we could do something about one of the world's most dangerous and complex crimes. What started as a grassroots operation with no funding and no roadmap has grown into a global organization with impact across 20+ countries, partnering with law enforcement to combat human trafficking crime, provide aftercare for survivors, use technology on the front lines, and protect vulnerable populations, including at-risk youth in the United States through our federally funded prevention education program, Influenced.

The leadership lessons I share on stage? I didn't learn them in a classroom. I learned them on the frontlines.
